Australian Spotted Bantam ducks are a rare American breed developed in the 1920's by crossing Mallards, Calls and wild Pintails. These ducks weigh about 30 ounces and are capable of treetop flights if their wings aren't clipped. They tend to be outstanding natural mothers and foragers with a comical, tame nature that makes them ideal for a homestead garden.

My ducks have a Fortrex "pond" that is cleaned out daily. They love to perch and are capable even as ducklings of scaling vertical elements throughout the barns and gardens. One of their favorite activities is following me when I weed or work up a new garden bed, since it stirs up numerous earthworms.
I have two different color types: Greenheads(similar in coloration to Mallards but with a bit more flair)and Silverheads(salmon shaded white ducks with subtle markings and silver wing speculums). There is also a Bluehead variation where the females are a lovely rosey shade with blue-grey accents and the males have a blue-grey head and blue wing speculums. I should have some of those born when I cross my Silver females with my Greenhead males.
All my ducklings are naturally reared by their mothers and are introduced to the garden as soon as possible. Very young ducklings or more mature, sexed stock is available in the summertime. Prices range from $10 for unsexed very young ducklings to $35.00 for sexed, proven mature stock. Shipping may be possible via USPS. Delivery which would coincide with my downstate trips to lower MI or WI is also a possibility.
